For more than 40 years, the Nashville Adult Literacy Council (NALC) has been helping adults with the literacy skills they need for the life they want. We provide learners with a safe place to learn through online classroom instruction and one-on-one tutoring with volunteers.

Summary:
The ELL Tutor Program Manager leads NALC’s one-on-one tutoring program for English Language Learners (ELL).
Roles and Responsibilities:
Create training plans and materials for volunteer tutors.
Maintain volunteer tutor training signups and rosters and communicate with volunteers on training details and next steps.
Facilitate monthly volunteer tutor trainings and monitor training completion. Provide opportunities for volunteer tutors to collaborate and form community with other volunteer tutors.
Provide ongoing training in NALC preferred online curriculum (Burlington English).
Ensure training environment is warm and inviting and that volunteer tutors have opportunities for meaningful relationships and participation.
Utilize a system to give tutors regular feedback.
Assist learners and volunteer tutors with technology issues when logging into Zoom, Burlington English, and other online applications, as needed.
Monitor volunteer tutor and learner hours and follow up on any missing information.
Register new learners for the tutoring program and identify learner level and curriculum recommendation.
Conduct ongoing registrations for returning learners, as needed.
Administer NALC preferred assessments and consult with learners on results.
Consult with learners on literacy goals and develop an individualized learning plan to capture best approach and plan for tutoring lessons.
Survey learners and volunteer tutors to collect feedback and inform programming.
Schedule and conduct introduction meeting with volunteer tutor and learner.
Schedule and conduct regular check-in meetings with volunteer tutor and learner to review learner goals and refine learning plans.
Counsel learners and tutors working through challenges and barriers to education as they arise.
Track volunteer tutor and learner progress using designated NALC processes and tools.
Demonstrate sensitivity to and awareness of cultural differences and education attainment of learners.
Work collaboratively and maintain prompt communication with learners, volunteer tutors, and NALC staff.
Maintain confidentiality of learner records and personal information.
Offer suggestions for program improvement and collaborate in support of NALC strategic goals.
Collaborate with community partners ensuring program/learner goals are achieved.
Focus on ways to make our tutoring program efficient, scalable, and replicable.
Additional Responsibilities:
Participate in team meetings, staff development, and training sessions with a willingness to work as part of a team.
Turn in timesheet and prepare other forms when requested.
Help recruit community members to volunteer with NALC.
Represent NALC at community functions/information booths.
Attend trainings and/or in-service locally.
Assist with office operations as needed.
Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
A bachelor’s degree or higher preferred, M.A. in TESOL or TFLI Certification a plus, or experience in working with the population we serve in adult education.
Minimum 3-years ESL teaching experience with qualification or 5-years of equivalent work experience.
Demonstrated knowledge of ESL teaching strategies.
Proficiency with Internet, E-Mail, Microsoft Office (especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) Google (Sheets and Forms), and Zoom (scheduling, screen sharing, breakout rooms, chat, etc.).
Familiarity with Burlington English and CASAS.
Excellent written and oral English proficiency.
Arabic and Spanish proficiency a plus.
